Florence Mae Hard May 29, 1922 - August 24, 2011 Mae Hard passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, Estevan, Sask. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 89 years in the presence of two people she fondly referred to as her "sisters", Velma Berg and Beryl Southernwood. Mae was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her parents, Floyd and Olga Smith; her only brother, Clayton; and niece, Karen Butler. She leaves to mourn her sister-in-law, Toini Smith, San Ramon, California; niece, Donna Fletcher, and her family Kim Fletcher and John Fletcher; also Karen's family Stephanie, Jason and Baby Logan, all in California; several cousins and their families in Saskatchewan and Alberta, including Clifden, Robert and Larry Berg, Ethel Anderson, Barb Oxby and her sister Diane, Aunt Evelyn Carter of Regina, Sask., as well as all the third generation children; sisters-in law, Nell Hard in Alberta and her family Don, Marie, Yvonne, Shirley and Robert, and their families, and Anne Hard and her family in B.C. Mae was born May 29, 1922 at Macoun, Sask. to the late Floyd and Olga (Berg) Smith, and was raised on a farm southeast of Midale, Sask. She was educated in Dewey, a one room country school and graduated from Midale High. Mae graduated from Grey Nuns Hospital, Regina, Sask., as an RN in 1946. She came to Estevan that year to begin her nursing career in St. Joseph's Hospital, where she spent many years. Mae married Arthur Hard in Estevan, August 7, 1947. Over the years she and Art made many trips to the States, to California or Las Vegas, where Mae really enjoyed the big shows or time playing Keno. She was a quiet, gentle lady who loved a game of cards, loved the Blue Jays and loved her profession. She will be missed. A Memorial Service for Mae was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, with Mr. Doug Third officiating. Interment followed in the Souris Valley Memorial Gardens, Estevan. Those so wishing may make donations to the New Estevan Regional Nursing Home, or charity of one's choice in Mae's memory. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
