Gilbert Clements Giem Gilbert Giem passed away at Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, October 20th, 2011 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was 75 years of age. He was born on January 20th, 1936 in Lampman, Saskatchewan to Clements and Katherine Giem. His younger years were spent in Steelman, and after graduating from Frobisher High School he attended Brandon University. Gilbert was a teacher in Mirror, Alberta. He later owned his own insurance business in Alix, Alberta and, upon is retirement, he and his wife Nancy moved to Red Deer. Gilbert was always very involved in the communities that he lived in, and his contributions were appreciated and recognized by many. He volunteered and belonged to a number of organizations, and was a long-standing member of the Lions Club. In his leisure time, Gilbert loved to read, play golf, travel and visit with family and friends. Gilbert was a kind and considerate person who always put others before himself. He could be best described as a "man of few words", but one with a great sense of humour. Gilbert leaves to mourn his wife, Nancy; son, Scott; and daughter, Cathy (Noel), both of Calgary, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother, Gerry. He is lovingly remembered by his three sisters and their husbands, Darlene (Ken) Schnell of Red Meadows, Alberta; Beatrice (Lorne) Hassard of Port Hope, Ontario and Paulette (Ken) Greentree of Taber, Alberta. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
