Gladys Margaret (Daku) Burke Our loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend Gladys, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the age of 81 years. She was predeceased by her first husband Stan Daku in 1982; infant son Darrell; and parents Thomas and Olive Robertson. She is survived by her husband, James Burke; children, Keith (Geri) Daku, Glen (Bonny) Daku, Blaine (Sheila) Daku and Lori (Lowell) Balzer; and sisters, Norma (Ervin) Deimert and Joyce Dakue. Her legacy is continued by eight grandchildren and spouses as well as six great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by many nephews and nieces. Gladys was born and raised in Langbank, Sask. She met and married Stan Daku and they eventually settled in Estevan in 1958 where they raised their family. She and Stan were founding members of the Estevan Alliance Church and until her passing, remained one of the only surviving charter members. Gladys actively served her God and Saviour in the church and in her community. Her faith in her God was the strength and focus of her life. She always found time for the needs of others, both inside her family and outside of it. She worked for many years as the administrator at Creighton Lodge in Estevan until her retirement in 1995. That same year, she married James Burke and they lived in Estevan until 2006 when they moved to Regina where all of Gladys' children lived. They resided in a condo at Selo Gardens Seniors Housing. Due to a serious illness in 2007, Gladys eventually moved to Helping Hands Personal Care Home in Regina where she was able to receive the care that she required. She was a resident of Helping Hands at the time of her passing. We are grateful for all the prayer and support we have received through this difficult time. We wish to express our thankfulness to the staff at Helping Hands who have provided Gladys with such excellent care. Most of all, we thank our God for the place that Gladys had in so many of our hearts and lives during her lifetime. Heaven is a little sweeter today because she is home. A CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE was held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, Sask. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. INTERMENT was held at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Estevan, Sask. on Saturday, October 1, 2011. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in memory of Gladys may be made to the Gideons International in Canada, P.O. Box 3619, Guelph, ON N1H 7A2. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home, 306-789-8850.
