Kenneth Edward Beggs November 16, 1934 - August 24, 2011 Kenn passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 76 years. Kenn will be lovingly missed by his wife, Joyce, to whom he was married for 57 wonderful years and his family, Brenda (Virgil) Noble, Estevan; Bonna Jean (Ray) Bateman, Winnipeg; grandchildren, Justin (Deneille) Noble, Shane (Susan) Noble, Dallas Bateman, Deena Bateman; great grandson Cardell Kenneth Noble; siblings, Warren Beggs, Carlyle, Adra (Blake) Brandon, Summerland, B.C., Roberta Perkins, Estevan, sister-in -law, Lillian Mantei, Emerald Park, brother-in-law, Tom Cundall, Estevan; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Hazel Beggs; infant brother, Hartford; brother, Gordon; sister, Vivian Wilson; nephews, Garth Wilson and Bob Mantei; in-laws, Roberta Beggs, George Wilson, Wes Perkins, Bertha Cundall and Bill Mantei. Kenn was born on the family farm at Bryant, Sask. He was the youngest of six siblings. He attended Bryant and Ellsworth schools before the family moved to Estevan in 1947. He continued his education at Hillside School and Estevan Collegiate Institute. His first job, pumping gas and washing cars, was at Rae's City Centre Super Service. In the 1950s, Estevan was experiencing its first oil boom and Kenn tried the "oil patch", driving a cement truck for Haliburton. His 32-year career in construction began with PW Graham, working on the Boundary Dam Generating Station. Later, he joined Lorman Construction and became their foreman. There are many buildings along the streets of Estevan that stand as a tribute to Kenn's skill in leadership with men and materials. They include City Hall, Fire Hall, St. Paul's United Church, Inglis Court, Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, Yardley Place, Nicholson Townhouses and many more. Kenn and his Lorman crew also constructed Carlyle Nursing Home, Bienfait Swimming Pool, Bienfait School Gym, Oungre Port of Entry, and Redvers Post Office; also, many homes and farm buildings. In 1954, Kenn married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Cundall. He built a little house on 8th Street that was always filled with love and laughter. In 1958, with the help of, his father, Bob Beggs and father-in law, George Cundall, the house on the acreage north of Estevan, was built. Soon two daughters, Brenda Joyce and Bonna Jean, "the pony girls", blessed their lives. Over the years on the acreage, Kenn raised Welsh ponies, Black Angus cattle, Quarter Horses and Haflinger Horses. Everyone rode and was a keen competitor on the Horse Show circuit, but Kenn's first love was always driving. He will be remembered for his participation in parades and on trail rides with his wagon and "team of blondes." He was a skilled horseman. Kenn was active in the Estevan Exhibition Association, square and round dancing, trail riding and in his church. Through these activities, Kenn made life-long friends. He will be remembered for his hearty smile and gentle, diplomatic ways. Kenn was the foundation of our family. We gathered often to celebrate holidays and birthdays. Children and grandchildren leaned on him for support and advice. Kenn's modest, kind and loving ways have positively influenced his family, friends and community. Kenn had a bumper sticker on his truck that read, "My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter", referring to Jesus. He lived that creed and showed us how to live our lives. Those so wishing to make donations in Kenn's memory may direct them to the New Estevan Regional Nursing Home Fund, 1201-2nd Street, Estevan, SK. S4A 0M1 or the St. Giles Anglican Church Building Fund, 1133-3rd Street, Estevan, Sk. S4A 0R6 Thank You Thank you to our family, friends and community for their outpouring of love and comfort at this difficult time. Friends and family travelled so far to join us to celebrate Kenn's life. Doug Third warmly eased our pain with the Prayer Service. Reverend Mike Sinclair led us through a great tribute to Kenn at the Memorial Service. Margaret Duncan kindly provided the music for both services. Dustin and his caring staff, at Hall Funeral Services, guided us through this trying time. Members of St. Giles graciously prepared and served the lunch. Thank you for the food, flowers, cards, messages, hugs and visits to share and ease our sorrow. We are eternally grateful for all your support.
