LOUISE MACK (As told by her children) William and Annie Helen Brockie lived and worked at the Dunbar farm at North Portal. Mom was born at the Portal, North Dakota hospital Oct. 23, 1931. In 1936, when Mom was 5 years old, the Brockie family moved to Duck Lake, Sask. where Grandpa Brockie took a job as a mechanic on a road building crew. While they lived at Duck Lake, Mom's sister, Lillian was born. They stayed at Duck Lake until 1943. When the family moved back to Estevan, Grandpa Brockie began working with his brother-in-law, Archie Holley at Mac's Service Station. Mom attended High School at E.C.I. and took her bookkeeping course. When Grandpa took over the service station, Mom came to work for him doing the bookkeeping and pumping gas. Mom continued to work at the garage until Grandpa passed away in 1966. Mom met our dad, Clarence Mack in 1952. They were married on November 28, 1953; they had 5 kids, 4 girls and 1 son, Elizabeth, Lynn, Rosemarie, Barrie and Shelley, and all are married and live in Estevan except Shelley who lives in Redcliff, Alta. with her family. Mom and Dad were married 53 years. Mom has 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The grandchildren always had great times out at the farm. Mom and Dad really enjoyed living at the farm, they built the house themselves in 1954-55 on land Dad bought from the Mack Family farm and that was the only place they ever wanted to be. Dad was a grain farmer; Mom was a farm wife, helping out picking rocks, hauling grain at harvest, making the lunches and meals and, of course, looking after 5 kids! Late in the '60s, Dad decided to rent the farm land and go back to working in town, at the Homco trailer plant and Mom also went back to work as a bookkeeper at Advance Building Supplies. Mom was an active member in the Canadian Diabetes Association. She held all the positions in the group at one time or another, from secretary-treasurer to president. They made a great bunch of friends through this association. They would load up the van with a group and be off to a meeting or convention somewhere! Mom and daughter Lynn flew to Halifax for a national convention. Mom and Dad loved to go camping with their trailer. They spent many enjoyable weekends at Kenosee Lake, Roche Percee Park, Tee One Up south of Estevan and at the park in Weyburn, meeting people from all over and making friends. The parks were great places to meet up with them and have some really fun family times. Lots of good memories were made around those campfires! Mom's always been an avid knitter. We were always amazed how she could watch TV, carry on a conversation and knit you a sweater at the same time! All of us have sweaters and afghans that Mom has made. The grandchildren each have a blanket that grandma made for them and the great grandbabies too, not to mention the slippers and hats and little pairs of booties, and she kept the whole family well supplied with dishcloths. Mom also liked to do word puzzles and you couldn't stump her on a word either backwards or forward, we always told her she should go play Wheel of Fortune and win some money! Mom moved to Estevan and lived at Trinity Tower after Dad's passing in 2006. September of 2010, Mom moved to Hill View Manor, she really liked her new home. Eunice and the staff there are really wonderful to their residents; they made Mom feel so welcome from the very first day! Mom joined in some of the activities like Wheel of Fortune games, she liked to go out and listen to the entertainment once or twice a week, sometimes we would go with her and join in the sing-a-longs ... Mom had a nice singing voice. She also on occasion took part in devotions on Wednesday afternoons. She enjoyed going to the family room every day and joining the other residents for her afternoon cup of tea. She was greatly loved by her family, and we always knew that we were the most important people in her life. "A HEART OF GOLD STOPPED BEATING TWO SHINING EYES AT REST GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST." Thank You We would like to thank Hall Funeral Services, especially Dustin and Shirley for all their help at this most difficult time, and Mr. Doug Third for the lovely service he did for Mom. Thank you Jennelle and Jaclyn for the beautiful song you did for Grandma, I?m sure she was very proud of you both. To all our friends and family for the prayers, masses, donations, phone calls, flowers, cards and all the delicious food and goodies brought by such caring friends. Your kindness will always be remembered. Our gratitude goes out to Dr. Grobler and the nurses at St. Joseph's and at Regina General for the care they gave to Mom during her stay in hospital. Thank you to Eunice, her staff and residents at Hill View Manor who welcomed Mom and all of us into their home ... we appreciate it very much. - Liz, Lynn, Rose, Barrie, Shelley, Lillian and Our Families.
