Marie Davis October 3, 1923 - May 10, 2011 Marie Davis passed away in Estevan, Sask. on Tuesday May 10, 2011 at the age of 87 years and entered the gates of heaven in blessed peace and assurance into the loving arms of Jesus. Marie is survived by four sons, Gene (Kathy), Lititz, Pennsylvania; Mike (Connie), Estevan; David (Bonnie), Madison, South Dakota and Steve (Karen) Mill Bay, B.C.; one daughter, Terry (Scott), Edmonton, Alberta; eight grandchildren, Michael, Jeff, Craig, Warren, Jadeen, Jennifer, Justin and Joey; Angela, Laura; Trista, Kyle; 23 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary High; husband, Troy; brother, James High; sister, Erda Mae McGarrity; and one precious granddaughter, Emilee Jean. Marie was born in Peach Orchard, Arkansas October 3, 1923. She grew up in the Southern United States and married Troy Bell Davis January 20, 1940 in Union, Arkansas. Work eventually brought the family to Canada in the 1960s and they decided to stay and make Estevan their home. Marie loved life and had a wonderful sense adventure. Her life took her to many places with work and she always looked forward to the next move. She loved to drive and would follow her husband to work places with her five children packed into her red car and off they would go! They lived in very many of the United States and New Zealand. Even though they moved often, Marie was a homemaker and she spent her life making the best home she could for her family. She was well known as a "mama bear" and would often intervene when the need arose. Although she often said she did not like cooking, she was a great cook but her passion was baking and she was a GREAT baker! Marie taught her children the value of good manners and respect and how to love. She taught them how to dance in her kitchen and played endless games and board games which she always tried to win! She loved to laugh and tell jokes and always enjoyed talking with everyone! How she loved to talk! Marie was blessed with nine grandchildren. She was "fierce" in her love for each one and these children were very close to her heart. She always had an open ear for each of them and many times held them as they poured out their hearts to her as they cried on her shoulder. She was the same way with her great grandchildren and every one of them adored her. Marie had a strong faith which brought her through many trials in life. She believed in the power of prayer and was diligent in her prayers for her family. She resided in Hill View Manor since 2002 and her room was her "museum." The walls were covered almost completely with pictures of her family and she often said she would look at them and they would remind her to pray for her "kids." Funeral services were celebrated at the Estevan Church of God on Thursday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Walter Engel officiating. Interment followed at the Estevan City Cemetery. Those so wishing may make donations to the Hill View Manor Activities Fund, 1401 1st Street, Estevan, Sask., S4A 2W7. Thank You The family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Christie and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital, Church of God ladies for the lunch, and to all those who sent their condolences, food and attended the funeral. A very special thank you to Eunice at Hill View Manor, Heather and all of the staff who so gently and lovingly cared for our Mom through her years there. Marie loved Hill View Manor and all of the girls who took such good care of her for so many years. She was proud of the fact that she was the longest living resident there and was greatly blessed by all of you. Words cannot express our deep heartfelt thanks and gratitude for everything you've done and for all of those who loved her. Thank you to Dustin and staff at Hall Funeral Services for the wonderful and caring way you served our mother and for helping us through this very difficult time.
