She was predeceased by her husband, Willie, in 1990; son, Kelly, in 1970; great grandson, Kyle Fielding, in 2006; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (1942) and Louisa (1956) (Hoyle) Barber. Maude was also predeceased by all of her seven brothers and five sisters. Maude was born at the family farm near Nottingham, Sask. on August 27, 1916 to Clifford and Louisa Barber. She was the fifth child and the first girl in a family that eventually numbered 13 children. Maude attended the Roseban School and there finished Grade 8. She then stayed home to help her parents with essential tasks of farm life. During the 1930s Maude worked as a hired girl for several farm families in the Rocanville, Moosomin, Brandon and Souris areas before finding an enjoyable job in the Souris Hospital Laundry Facility. When her father became ill in the early 1940s, she returned home to help her mother who was also caring for her own aging parents and the younger children. After returning home she met William Kendall of the Thunder Creek District and they married on March 18, 1942. They settled on the W1/2 6-4-31 W1 where they worked side by side for many years on their successful farm. Their union was blessed by seven children born between the years 1943-1960. Maude was a confident, capable farm wife and mother and was happy to pass her rural heritage on to her family. Maude and Willie sold their farm to their eldest son, Dennis, and moved to Gainsborough in the fall of 1977. They enjoyed their retirement in town, tending their gardens and socializing with the family and neighbours. Maude took an active role with both the Seniors' Centre and the United Church in Gainsborough. She did quite a bit of travelling with friends and family after Willie's passing in 1990. Maude ended her years residing in Estevan where she loved her 7th Floor apartment and view at Trinity Tower from 2003-2011. Her life was rich and full with the comings and goings of family and friends, rollicking card games with family and friends and knitting special warm fuzzies and baking goodies and her special buns for her many grandchildren to enjoy. After falling and breaking her hip February 5, 2011, Maude has been in nursing care. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the company of family during the night of August 10, 2011. A celebration of Maude's life was held at the Carievale United Church on Monday, August 15 with fellowship at the Carievale Hall following the service. Interment took place at Carnduff Cemetery, followed by a social time at the Carnduff Legion. Maude will always be remembered for her keen wit, her willingness to help and her strong dedication to family and friends.
