New owners of Nevada's feeling 'at home' in Kipling

They may be new to the community. But, there are a lot of things about Kipling and the business that they've just acquired here, that are very familiar Wayne and Wendy Chen.
The couple took over as the the new owners of Nevada's Bar and Grill in September. Wendy notes that she and her husband have been involved in the restaurant business for several years.
"We were living in Rivers, MB which is a short distance away from Brandon," says Wendy. "Rivers is a smaller community. In fact, it has almost exactly the same population as Kipling! We ran a Chinese Restaurant there for 24 years."
Wendy says that a desire to remain close to their children brought the couple to Saskatchewan.
"Both of my daughters are at the University of Regina. So, last year we decided to sell our restaurant and move into Regina. We wanted to be closer to them."
However, Wendy says that she found herself feeling out of place in Regina.
ìI'm just not a 'Big City Girl'! So, we started looking around for a smaller community that we could move to; where we could still be close to Regina. When I found out that there was a chance for us to buy a business here in Kipling, we decided to come out and take a look. This is a very nice community, and Nevada's is the right kind of business for us to take on. Also, we are not only still close to our daughters, but I have a sister living in Grenfell too. So, this seemed like the right place for us to be.î
Wendy says that while she hopes to do some renovations in the near future: the Chens would like their customers to suggest some changes that they might like to see.
ìI would really like to paint, and do some renovations ñ just to make it feel like 'ours'. But, we won't be making any changes to the menu for now. I have a 'Comments Box' set up beside the till. And, I am really hoping that people will let us know what kinds of things they might like to have us bring in.î
Wendy says that the couple are also busy renovating the home that they have bought in Kipling, and adds that she is happy to have this chance to come ìbackî to this province.
ìKipling is just the right size. We have everything here that we need. And, it feels good to me to be back in Saskatchewan. When I first came to Canada, I came to Saskatchewan. So, when friends from Manitoba ask me if I'm 'homesick' ñ I tell them that I've actually come back home by moving here!î
ìThis was just meant to be!î she says with a smile.
