Once upon a time...was a really nice time

The 'real story' behind some of our best-loved fairy tales was brought to life last Monday evening, as Grades 3-7 students at Kennedy Langbank School presented the play “What Happened After Once Upon A Time” by Alexi Alfieri.

Who knew that Cinderella is really a 'clean freak' that lives to scrub her bathtub with a toothbrush? Or that Rapunzel is a moody Diva? Or that Little Red Riding Hood is actually a 'high-powered' lawyer who is even willing to defend the wolf that “allegedly” ate her grandmother...for the right price?

Certainly those of us who grew up hearing about the 3 Little Pigs battle against the “Big Bad Wolf” never dreamed that the 3 pigs suffered from hay fever...backache...or depression issues. That being the case...are we really surprised to learn that the “Big Bad Wolf” is really a polite English “actor” that would rather not “huff & puff” (as it irritates his asthma)?

From Goldilocks to Snow White and her “difficult” Dwarfs...Hansel and Gretel...and a (somewhat delinquent) Jack (of Beanstalk fame)...a delightful cast of characters brought their (slightly odd) stories to life on the Kennedy Langbank School stage. It was obvious to those who came out to enjoy the evening...that the students really enjoyed being the “voice” for these characters.

And, as principal Denise Singleton pointed out prior to the start of the performance, some of the students had taken on unique challenges. Due to illness, there had been a need for roles to be reassigned that very morning. As well, the (very large) role of the “Storyteller” was played by five young ladies, who each took their turn on-stage leading the audience through this elaborate story.

The Junior Drama Night comes at the end of what has been a busy and successful year at Kennedy Langbank School. Congratulations to all of the actors and to Mrs. Husband (Director), Mrs. Decelle (Lights), Mrs. Singleton (Prompter) and Ms. Brule (Back Stage Manager) for helping the students mount an excellent production.

            Well done!
