Rose Mary Murphy 1924 - 2014 Rose Mary was born on April 21, 1924 in Evesham, England to William and Rose Copling. She was the older sister of Dorothy, Bette and Frederick. Rose Mary grew up in London and was formally trained as a tailor. During the war she served a term with the Land Army and then became an Air Raid Warden with her Dad. She met William Edwin Murphy, Bill, at a dance. She said there were a lot of men in good shape to pick from, but he was the one! Bill was wounded during the war and he spent 3 months in the hospital in England before he was sent back to Canada. 2 years later in 1946 Rose Mary boarded a plane to move to Canada. When she arrived here she thought it was nothing but ragweed and grasshoppers. In 1947 she married Bill and they made the farm near Estevan their home. In 1950 they welcomed Betty Anne into their lives. One year later Alan Everett was born. In 1953 William Daniel came along and finally David Andrew in 1958. Rose Mary loved her children dearly and each and every one of them was her "golden child", even though they would beg to differ. Rose Mary was a wonderful mother and wife. She took care of the farm and the family by being their nurse, gardener, cook, baker, councillor, tailor making most of their clothes and friend. In the late 80's Bill was diagnosed with Parkinsons. Rose Mary took care of him during this time until his passed away on New Year's Eve in 1994. She continued to live on the farm until 1998 when she moved into Estevan into Sussex Arms. Rose Mary made many friends here that she cherished and spoke fondly of. In December of 2012 Rose Mary's eye sight was declining due to her glaucoma and she moved into Hillview Manor. Rose Mary had a good, healthy life. She would often say that she was lucky and there were many people around her that had it worse than she did. She turned her little homestead of ragweed and grasshoppers into a loving family of 4 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Seven weeks ago she was hospitalized. Here she celebrated her 90th birthday with a KFC supper which she fancied and her last Mother's Day. She passed away May 21, 2014. Rose Mary was predeceased by her parents William and Rose Copling, her husband William Edwin Murphy; sisters, Dorothy Copling & Bette Copling. She is survived by her children Betty Anne (Richard Tarnes), Alan (Pat), Danny (Paula), David (Laurie); 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her brother Frederic and his family.
