Shirley Barnstable Loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Shirley Mae Barnstable (nee Brokenshire) of Assiniboia, Sask. passed away on September 8, 2011, after a year-long battle with cancer. Shirley was born on April 20, 1945, in Estevan, Sask., the oldest of 11 children born to William and Dorothy (nee Dryden) Brokenshire. Shirley married Robert Barnstable on October 9, 1965, and they were blessed with four children, Michelle, Shelley, Scott and Jacquie. Shirley was a friendly, outgoing, wonderful person who loved spending time with family and friends. She dearly loved her grandchildren, who all brought her great joy and many stories to tell. Shirley was very active in the community and enjoyed curling and golfing. She also loved to work in her garden and go camping with her family. Shirley was a very good friend and a wonderful listener. She was a fantastic mother and grandmother and encouraged her children and grandchildren to always do their best. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, William and Dorothy Brokenshire; in-laws, Wilbert and Katherine Barnstable; brother, Gary Brokenshire; and sister-in-law, Laurene Gamble. Shirley leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Robert Barnstable; three daughters, Michelle (Marty) Boll, Shelley (Kelly) Weal, Jacquie (Sean) Godfrey; a son, Scott (Michelle) Barnstable; eleven grandchildren; Jessica, Sydney, Adam Boll; Jordan, Rachel, Mackenzie Weal; Levi, Ty, Camryn Barnstable; Jaden, Sage Godfrey; five sisters: Jeannette (Richard) Fichter, Elaine (Richard) Groshong, Karen (Larry) Mack, Lois (Dwight) Moerike, Susan (Rod) Sands; four brothers: Wayne (Connie) Brokenshire, Bruce (Anita) Brokenshire, Blaine (Donna) Brokenshire, Billy Joe (Lorelie) Brokenshire and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, Sask., with Father Joy Montiague celebrant. Organist was Gail Delorme. The eulogy was shared by Michelle Boll, Shelley Weal, Scott Barnstable and Jacquie Godfrey. Urn bearers were Levi Barnstable, Ty Barnstsable, Camryn Barnstable, Jessica Boll, Sydney Boll and Adam Boll. Interment to take place at Estevan, Sask. Memorial tributes in memory of Shirley to the Pasqua Palliative Unit (RPCI), Box 1697, Regina, SK S4P 3C6, a Palliative Care Centre in your area or a charity of your choice.
