Team Monstars win Beach Volleyball tourney

Windthorst Arena held their 29th Annual Indoor Beach Volleyball tournament on August 18th with a total of 13 teams registering.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Windthorst Arena held their 29th Annual Indoor Beach Volleyball tournament on August 18th with a total of 13 teams registering. Once again teams registered under quirky and unusual team names with play beginning on Friday evening on the three indoor courts.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Teams ranged in age and skill levels, some were in for fun and some may have been a little more competitive but all had a great time throughout the evening.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Team Monstars went undefeated throughout the tournament to claim the championship title. But that championship title didn't come easy. At the sound of the buzzer it was a tie game 39-39. In聽 overtime they finally came out on top with a score of 15-13 beating out Team Skoden to take home a prize of $200.00. Second place Team Skoden took home $150.00. Taking third place in the tournament with a prize of $100.00 was Globo Gym.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Following game play a cabaret was held for everyone of age to enjoy with Matt Gesell out of Kipling providing the music.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This year's beach volleyball tournament netted a profit of approximately $4,500 after expenses.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎ll of the money raised will go towards operational expenses of the rink,鈥 comments Rhonda Kapell, rink president and one of the organizers of the tournament.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The arena operates mainly on the fundraising efforts of the community, relying on donations and success of its fundraising efforts.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us and we are already planning for next year as it will be our 30th Anniversary of Beach Volleyball,鈥 adds Kapell.
