REGINA - Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill has issued a statement expressing deep concerns after a 46-year-old male in Assiniboia was charged with sexual assault and child pornography possession.
Coronach RCMP had been investigating a historic sexual assault and determined an adult male had sexually assaulted three male youths under 12 years old during the mid 2010s.
The RCMP General Investigation Service and ICE unit had executed a search warrant at a home in Assiniboia. The individual was arrested, and he was charged Tuesday with three counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference, two counts invitation to sexual touching, three counts of making sexually explicit material available to individual under 16, one count of voyeurism and one count possession of child pornography.
The accused was remanded into custody and due back in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Nov. 29 at 9:30 a.m.
Most troublesome for the education ministry was word that a home based daycare was operating at this residence. RCMP said the General Investigation Service and ICE units are investigating.
As for the province, they are saying the child care home's license has been put on hold and the Education ministry will assist families in finding alternative care.
Minister Cockrill has issued the following statement:
“I am deeply concerned with the serious allegations involving the exploitation of children, in relation to an individual connected to a place where parents send their children to be safe and protected.
“When the Ministry of Education was alerted that a police charge occurred, immediate action was taken to place the family child care home’s license on hold. The ministry will be assisting families in finding alternative care where possible.
“Police-based Victims Services is in contact with the RCMP regarding this situation and will be reaching out to families to offer support, information, and referrals to services during this difficult time.
“I would like to thank the RCMP for their efforts in investigating this matter. As this is currently being investigated by the RCMP we are not able to comment further at this time.”
