LA RONGE— A 22-year-old woman has been charged with murder after a death in the northern community of Kitsaki.
According to Saskatchewan RCMP, on Nov. 25, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the La Ronge detachment received a report of an unresponsive male at a residence on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in the community of Kitsaki.
Officers immediately responded and located a deceased male. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Wilfred Ballantyne from Pelican Narrows. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been engaged to provide support.
As a result of investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, 22-year-old Mary Bird from La Ronge is charged with second-degree murder.
She is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Nov. 27.
RCMP Major Crimes continues to investigate and an increased police presence will continue in the community.
