NORTH BATTLEFORD - North Battleford council has passed third and final reading of the Late Evening Alley Access Bylaw.
The bylaw, which restricts pedestrian and vehicle traffic access in alleyways between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily, will now take effect in North Battleford beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
The city has touted the bylaw as another tool at their disposal to fight crime in the city. The bylaw replicates similar ones already in place in Nipawin and Prince Albert.
According to their news release, there are several exemptions under the bylaw, which will allow access to those living adjacent and their permitted guests, those accessing for lawful business purposes, as well as law enforcement and first responders. Fines for those contravening the bylaw run between $250 to $2500.
Anyone seeking more information about the bylaw can contact the City Clerk at [email protected].
