Major fire at Wheat City Metals now under control

REGINA - A major fire at Wheat City Metals north of Regina is now under control, after burning through much of the day and into the night Thursday. 

Thursday evening, Regina Fire and Protective Services posted on the 'X' social m3dia platform that they remained on the scene of a fire in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood north of Regina. The fire was reported just after 1 p.m., and there was significant smoke from, the fire but it was under control and there was no threat to the public. People were asked to avoid the area as they continued working to fully extinguish the fire.

While the fire is deemed to be under control, the fire was still visible past midnight and a thick plume of smoke was seen in the area.

Regina Fire and Protective Services also provided this statement regarding the fire at Wheat City Metals:

"After first arriving on scene, Fire Marshal Randy Ryba had initial concerns regarding the situation. However, crews secured a water source, and the fire is contained and in full control. Regina Fire & Protective Services assures residents there is no threat to the surrounding area and air quality is being monitored. Further updates will be provided, as necessary.

"Regina Fire & Protective Services has a longstanding Service Level Agreement with the Rural Municipality of Sherwood."
