REGINA - The City of Regina has announced it will hold their second tree seedling giveaway of the year in Victoria Park on September 20.
In a news release the City says 1,000 seedlings will be available in Victoria Park between 9 a.m. and noon Wednesday on first- come first-serve basis.
The choices will include Black Hills Spruce, Siberian Larch and Crystal Blue Spruce, with quantities varying.
The event is part of the city’s celebration of National Tree Day, with trees being touted by the city as a way to help with flooding, natural cooling and the removal the CO2 equivalent of 3,330 mid-sized vehicles from the atmosphere each year.
“National Tree Day is a chance to give thanks for the amazing things that trees do for us,” says Russell Eirich, Manager of Open Space Services, in a statement.
“Trees make our individual homes and communities special places to be. Beyond our community, our trees are one small piece of the puzzle to mitigate climate change and make our world a better place.”
