REGINA - It has been announced that the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union has reached a tentative agreement with the Government of Saskatchewan.

Both the province and SGEU announced the tentative labour deal in their news releases Tuesday. According to the province’s statement, the tentative agreement covers the period Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2025.

"I am pleased with both parties' commitment and co-operation in working to reach a tentative agreement," Minister Responsible for the Public Service Commission Dustin Duncan said in a statement. "The best agreements are reached at the bargaining table, and this agreement is good for both public service employees and the people of Saskatchewan."

Both sides had been without a collective agreement since September 30, 2022, and had been in negotiations since January 2023; SGEU served notice of impasse in February 2024 and March 2024, a government-appointed mediator was appointed. Following mediation, the Public Service/Government Employment Negotiating Committee reached the tentative agreement with the province.

SGEU says details of the tentative agreement were brought to PS/GE’s bargaining council on May 9 and 10, who voted in favor of presenting it to members for ratification. That vote is being coordinated over the coming days. The union plans to hold virtual information sessions with members on the tentative deal.

“This agreement is the product of months of hard work at the bargaining table,” said negotiating committee chair Lori Bossaer in a news release. “Our goal was to negotiate a contract that provides wage increases and improved working conditions that address recruitment and retention for our members, who provide important programs and services across the province. It’s now up to the membership to make an informed decision.”

SGEU PS/GE represents over 11,000 members who work in government ministries and agencies throughout Saskatchewan.
