I have received so many DMs about what people believe is going on at OpenAI that it's hard to read them all. Some from inside, some from people super-close to the inside, some total nonsense, and some that sound plausible. I don't want to add to the rumor mill.
Is Sam going back to OpenAI? It's anyone's guess. (I'm not sure Sam could even answer that question right now.)
Yesterday, Satya Nadella told 's Emily Chang that Microsoft is going to be partnered with Sam and Greg no matter where they land. Emily asked all the right questions, and Satya answered as only Satya can: brilliantly. When the dust settles, Satya may have purchased the brain trust (and most of the employees) of OpenAI while bypassing the antitrust regulators. If you didn't know better, you'd think this was orchestrated.
Most of my lawyer friends don't think there's much chance of a successful investor lawsuit against the OpenAI's board for value destruction. That probably won't stop the lawsuits, though.
I wish I could buy the movie rights to this story. There’s so much espionage and intrigue! Or, maybe it should instead be the subject of a children's book:

You can take it from here – which is a way better use of your time than speculating about the future of OpenAI. For those of you who don't recognize the form, this poem fragment was inspired by one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, "Green Eggs and Ham."
Is it a knock-off? Is it copyright infringement? Is this considered "fair use"? If you use ChatGPT to complete the above, are you cheating? Could ChatGPT's work product be copyrighted as original work? What if you had to substantially change the output, but still used some of the rhymes it created?
The people who were smart enough to create a platform capable of raising these questions about the way human beings create and communicate weren't smart enough to think through the ramifications of their actions… or were they?
