Police ask for help from public after suspicious man approached child at Sandy Beach park

The man was not known to the child, and he ran away after they were approached by the child’s parent.

SANDY BEACH REGIONAL PARK - Police are asking for help from the public following a report of a suspicious person at Sandy Beach Regional Park.

On Aug. 27 at around 4 p.m., Maidstone RCMP received a report of a suspicious-looking man who approached and was speaking with a young child at a playground at Sandy Beach Regional Park, approximately 16 kilometres north of Lloydminster.

The man was not known to the child and he ran away after they were approached by the child’s parent.

The man is described as being Caucasian, approximately 6 feet tall, from 180 to 200 pounds, with short brown hair. He was wearing navy-coloured running shoes with blue shorts, a grey T-shirt, sunglasses and a hat. He was also carrying a beach mat.

Extensive patrols were made in the area; however, officers were unable to locate the man.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

The RCMP encourage parents to have a conversation with their children to let them know they do not have to speak with strangers, and if they are approached by a stranger, they can leave immediately and tell a trusted adult.
