Leslie Stadnichuk's Forever and Kathleen Slavin's Remembered will be at the Humboldt and District Gallery from Jan. 10 to Feb. 23.

HUMBOLDT — Two new exhibits are sharing space at the Humboldt and District Gallery.

The works of Leslie Stadnichuk and Kathleen Slavin will be displayed from Jan. 10 to Feb. 23.

Stadnichuk paints florals and landscapes using mainly oils. Her exhibition, entitled Forever, features colourful floral paintings. As described in her artist statement, she uses her pieces to “capture the essence of her subject, bringing the viewer into the emotion which inspired the work.”

She describes flowers as “an expression of care and concern to those we love in times of great joy or immense sorrow,” and the titles of her pieces reflect that emotion.

In her artist statement Slavin describes Remembered as inspired by Sassi, an old town in southern Italy, which is “one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. Homes and churches were formed by digging into the rock, and streets and dwellings were stacked upon each other.” Her pieces “evoke the old-world Mediterranean feel of the area,” as seen in the stunning colours and shapes used.

These exhibitions are sure to catch your eye with their colours and emotions.

A reception for Stadnichuk and Slavin will be at the Gallery on Jan. 20 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to discuss and celebrate their art. Refreshments will be provided at this free event.
