NORTHEAST — The region's regional parks, lakes and resort villages are planning their own celebrations to mark Canada Day.
Resort Village of Tobin Lake
The Resort Village of Tobin Lake has added excitement as they will be celebrating the Resort Village’s 50th birthday on July 1.
Mayor Amy Shipley said the main highlight for the 50th is the Pig Roast supper (which is sold out) and live entertainment by Ches Anthony and his band open to everyone in the evening followed by a fireworks display celebrating 50 years. Historical pictures and slide shows and memorabilia will be on display.
The Resort Village will also have their 50th Birthday Cookbook which will have over 250 recipes along with the history of the Resort Village of Tobin Lake. On Sunday we are hosting our annual Driftwood Outdoor Craft and Trade Show with over 30 vendors and Gloria’s Food Truck will be on site. A pancake breakfast will start the day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. A sand-castle contest, face-painting, fishponds, kids' activities and games at the campgrounds will all be available.
LeRoy Leisureland
Canada Day Countdown, stop at LeRoy Leisureland, home to this year’s Canada Day Celebration put on by the LeRoy and District Recreation Board and Leisureland.
There’s free entrance to the park and swimming area all day. Smokie on a bun and a drink will be available at a cost. The official excitement gets under way at 2 p.m. There are pool games and a Canada Day Olympics style competition. A Money Mountain will be part of the excitement as well. For the kids, there’s colouring and face painting. The day wraps up with S’mores at dusk and once the skies darken, the Canada Day fireworks will light up the Leisureland skies (approximately 10 p.m.)
Pasquia Regional Park
Pasquia Regional is hosting a four person best ball scramble at their golf course. There will be a presentation at 1:30 p.m. on July 1, a bike parade and fun pool games at the pool. There will be a bouncy house on site, along with a 50/50 and fireworks at dusk.
Marean Lake
Marean Lake will be celebrating Canada Day on July 1. Dress up your bike, quad and golf carts up and meet at 1:15 p.m. at the Klinger Trail parking lot and be ready at 1:30 p.m. for the bike and golf cart parade. You can watch at the beach store. Canada Day cake will be served at the public beach. There will be fireworks at dusk.
Barrier Lake
At the Barrier Lake Resort, there will be a parade at 11 a.m. and fireworks at dusk. At Barrier Ford, the restaurant plans to have a beer gardens from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park
There will be a full day of activities, games and crafts to celebrate Canada Day at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.
Activities kick off at 1 p.m. with cake/cupcakes to start celebrations off. From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be come and go games, Canada Day temporary tattoos, and a Canada Day bingo game at the welcome tent. At 1 p.m. an Art Hour with shaving cream fireworks craft which will make your own firework art using shaving cream. Beach relays race against teams to be the first to complete the Sask. Parks obstacle race. Art Hour continue at 4 p.m. with Beaver Keychain Craft which creates a customized Canadian Beaver key chain. The second Annual Canuck Quest. Participants will use clues and directions, venture through the park on a quest to discover Canadian treasure.
Kipabiskau Regional Park
Kipabiskau Regional Park will hold their firework shows on Friday, June 30 at dusk. On Saturday, July 1st, there will be a farmers' market from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be children's activities at Stoney Lake Bible camp beach from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On July 2, there will be a pancake breakfast at Montgomery Hall
