Mayfair News: Former classmates die in San Diego crash

David Mischuk, a Mayfair area autobody mechanic, is one of the stars of Lost Car Rescue.

MAYFAIR ‑‑ Congratulations to Desiree and Mike of Battleford on the birth of their third child, a bouncing baby girl, last week. Proud grandparents are Maryanne and David Mischuk of Mayfair.

Lost Car Rescue, a television series that started two weeks ago, stars a few guys with passion for vehicles. One of these is David Mischuk, former owner of Country Autobody, located three miles from my farm. If one saw an old vehicle on a flat deck trailer going towards the Mayfair-Rabbit Lake area it probably was going to his place. It is always more interesting to watch when you know a person on the show.

A former high school classmate of mine and her husband were killed near a harbourwhile vacationing in San Diego, Calif. last week. Jerry and Madeleine (nee Frey) Zimmer were pedestrians at a crosswalk when a speeding vehicle struck them and they were instantly killed. They resided in Devon, Alta. Condolences to the Frey and Zimmer families.

There are many accidents where I am located in Yuma, Ariz. on two busy main streets. On returning from a Johnny Cash tribute concert Saturday night, just half a block from my trailer resort, a 65-year-old motorcyclist was instantly killed. Half way up the block, a two-vehicle collision occurred within one hour. Traffic was diverted with eight police cars, two fire trucks and ambulances taking care of the bad situation.

Stay safe, everyone, as the highways can be icy. If you need not be out and about, being at home is the safest. Every day is a blessing to be alive.
