COVID gives Saskatchewan author time to write

Two published books result from work during pandemic isolation

C. Ingrid Deringer has used her time wisely during the pandemic. She turned her part-time passion into a full-time career.

At 61 years old, author, Ingrid Deringer, is not new at re-inventing herself. Hairdresser, counsellor, researcher, shiatsu therapist, acupuncturist, meditation teacher, life cycle celebrant, and organic farmer, are just a few of the careers she has had over her lifetime. She has lived on the East Coast and West Coast and everywhere in between and even lived briefly in Australia.

“I come from a large family and I started writing short-story fiction over four years ago after my oldest sister, who suffered from dementia, passed away. Writing was a way to help deal with my emotions. I didn’t expect that it would turn into such a passion but it did, and I fell in love with it.

“The problem then became that I never found the time to really immerse myself into my writing like I wanted. When the pandemic hit, the isolation was a gift. I found an amazing editor and happily spent my time taking more writing courses online and wrote for five to six hours a day. A few months ago, I decided it was time to retire from my acupuncture and wellness practice so I could spend more time on writing books and getting them out there for people to read and enjoy.

“It’s a new chapter in my life and one that I am so excited about.”

Deringer’s debut novel, If I Could Live Again, published by Friesen Press has recently been released and her Children’s book, Shall We Dance published by Book Baby has been out since July. She is working on two more novels; one in the final editing stages. Another Children’s book, Hailey Loves Dandelions is currently going through the production process and will be for sale soon. She plans to spend time travelling throughout Canada in her fifth wheel, doing book tours next year once the restrictions have loosened and it is safe to do so.

Reviewers, including Readers’ Favorite, have given both If I Could Live Again and Shall We Dance, five stars. Both books are available for sale online, and in select stores and will be available in book stores soon.
