LLOYDMINSTER - Two people facing drug and weapons related offences, as well as charges of illegally importing tobacco products into Saskatchewan, were granted bail.

Richard David Bear, 32, and Larissa Montana, 24, had a show cause hearing in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Sept. 20 and Sept. 13 respectively.

The federal Crown prosecutor was opposed to their release on tertiary grounds, meaning the Crown believed detention was required to maintain confidence in the administration of justice. The details of what is said during bail hearings can’t be published.

Maidstone RCMP Roving Traffic Unit arrested Bear and Montana during a traffic stop on Aug. 25.

They are both charged with unlawfully importing tobacco into Saskatchewan, possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and Buprenorphine for the purpose of trafficking, four firearms related offences, possession of currency under $5,000 obtained by an offence, and possession of identity documents of another person. Montana was additionally charged with obstruction of a peace officer for giving a false name and trying to hide evidence.

The Crown is proceeding by indictment against Bear and Montana. The charges against them haven’t been proven in court.

Bear and Montana are expected back in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 18 to enter an election. Montana is also expected to enter a plea.
