Have you thought about where you will live when you retire?
There are always questions to be answered about health care, activities and the essentials of life. Do you want to live in the city or a small town?
A new option may be available in the near future.
Mervin Village Council has accepted a proposal for a condominium development on the property where the school once stood. Louise Stuart of Re/Max and Brian Winterhalt of Blokway Homes Ltd, were in Mervin Oct. 20, to present the proposal at a town meeting in the complex.
After the demolition of the old school in the spring, village council approached Re/Max to help find a purpose for the vacant land. After research and study, it was decided a condominium development made more sense, financially, than to subdivide the property. This development will be called Heritage Manor Estates.
At the moment, the floor plans are for duplex units with an attached garage, the smallest being 1,066 sq ft. and the largest being 1,121 sq ft. These units are two bedroom, one to two bath and have an open concept living area. Basements are optional, although recommended for resale purposes. These floor plans are on display in the lobby of the complex for viewing. It is not definite all will be duplex units and fourplex units will be considered as well depending on what the prospective owner wishes.
As for answering the question of health care, there is a hospital five minutes away in Turtleford. It was pointed out that this time window is larger in most cities. Residents can have a full active schedule with the bowling alley and golf course in Mervin along with Bumbleberry's Tea and Coffee house. For the sports enthusiast there are two hockey rinks and two curling rinks within a 20 minute drives in Edam and Turtleford. For the essentials of life, there is a store in Mervin with grocery and hardware items.
It is hoped that this project will encourage those in the 45+ age bracket to locate in Mervin and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of a small town.
