Contest underway to determine best snowmobiling town

Eight local communities are facing eight other Saskatchewan communities in SnoRiders' SledTown ShowDown.

In the first round of the SnoRiders' SledTown ShowDown contest, eight east central communities are pitted against eight other Saskatchewan communities.

EAST CENTRAL — A number of local communities are in the running in a competition to determine the best snowmobiling town in Western Canada.

In the , hosted by the SnoRiders online snowmobiling magazine, readers vote for the best community over a number of rounds.

The each in the provinces of Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. It runs from Feb. 8 to 20, 2022.

  • Tisdale is facing Chitek Lake
  • Nipawin is against Prince Albert
  • Melfort is pitted against Duck Mountain Provincial Park
  • Carrot River/Arborfield is facing Esterhazy
  • Archerwill is against Yorkton
  • Porcupine Plain is against Meadow Lake
  • Kelvington is pitted against North Battleford
  • Hudson Bay is against Big River.

“Each round, our readers vote for their favourites and the destinations get whittled down,” the contest website said. “By Round 4, we’ll have our provincial winners, which will go head-to-head until only one town remains to be crowned the 2022 SledTown ShowDown Champion of Western Canada.”

Last year, Nipawin won the provincial title. Before that, Hudson Bay won the title in 2020 and 2019.

Nationally, Lac du Bonnet, Man. won the title in 2021. The only time a Saskatchewan community has won the title in the eight years the contest’s been active was in 2016, where Yorkton shared the title with Houston, B.C.
