SWEETGRASS FIRST NATION - An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared on Sweetgrass First Nation.

A public service announcement was issued Sept. 15 by Indigenous Services Canada that the outbreak has been declared on the reserve, due to "ongoing community transmission."

According to the latest dashboard statistics issued Thursday for the First Nation, there are 24 active cases on the reserve. Of those, 17 are unvaccinated, five vaccinated and two no data. There are 10 cases under 12 years of age. Four new cases were reported Thursday.

According to the First Nation, all community buildings have been closed effective immediately on Sept. 15. The provincial mask mandate announced Sept. 16 is in effect on the reserve as of Friday; the province's proof of vaccination policy will take effect Oct. 1.
