REGINA — The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health's weekly COVID-19 integrated epidemiology (epi) report was issued Thursday, June 9 for the period ending June 4, and there are a few things you should know.
Case numbers still heading down
A total of 285 new cases were confirmed reflecting 24 laboratory- confirmed cases per 100,000 population, that is lower than the 364 new cases confirmed the previous week.
Lab tests up slightly while test positivity goes down
A total of 5,888 laboratory tests were performed in Saskatchewan reflecting 4.9 tests performed per 1,000 population. The number of tests was higher than the number of tests in the previous week (5,667).
The weekly test positivity of 4.6 per cent is down from 5.3 per cent the previous week. Test positivity was highest and increased in the South East zone this week from 3.6 per cent to 10 per cent this week.
Hospitalizations down again significantly
Total COVID hospitalized are 187, down 45 from the previous week.
The total COVID adult ICU/ICU surge is 10, up four.
Average daily admissions over past seven days are 14, which is unchanged.
Total COVID related illness is 56, down 12
Total incidental COVID infection is 118, down 33.
Total patients under investigation is 13, unchanged.
Deaths are up by one
There were 10 newly-reported COVID-19 deaths (nine in the previous week).
Omicron BA.2 domination continues
The Omicron BA.2 sublineage accounted for 97.5 per cent of the variants of concern reported this week. BA.2 sublineage is more transmissible compared to pre-variant 2020 COVID-19 and BA.1 sublineages, but there is no current evidence of increased severity.
