BIG ISLAND LAKE CREE TERRITORY — Four Alberta men in possession of meth, cocaine and heroin men have been charged after they got their vehicle stuck when attempting to flee from RCMP.

“Thanks to the vigilance of the community, we were able to keep a significant amount of illicit drugs off local streets. Consider the 41 grams of crystal methamphetamine seized – that is the equivalent of approximately four hundred individual doses,” says Cpl. David Horton of the Pierceland RCMP. “These community-police partnerships are so important to overall community safety.”

On Dec. 15, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Big Island Lake Cree Territory.

Shortly after, officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and drove down a trail in a nearby forested area, where it became stuck in deep snow.

Four individuals were then arrested without incident. Officers searched the vehicle and located and seized:

  • 41 grams of crystal methamphetamine
  • 50 grams of crack cocaine
  • 1.2 grams of suspected fentanyl/heroin

As a result of investigation, four men ages 23 to 33, all of Cold Lake, Alta, were charged with:

  • 2 counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • 1 count, fail to stop vehicle for peace officer, Section 320.13, Criminal Code
  • 1 count, possession of the proceeds of property obtained by an indictable offence, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code

One of the men was also charged with two counts, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.

Two were remanded to appear in court on Dec. 20 in Meadow Lake. The other two will appear in court on Feb. 15 in Pierceland.
