THE BATTLEFORDS — Road conditions are less hazardous around the Battlefords Wednesday, according to the Highway Hotline.
Tuesday, icy roads and swirling and drifting snow had the Highway Hotline recommending no travel in the area around the Battlefords.
Areas saw wind gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour along with snow and even rain, with snow continuing overnight.
Today, Wednesday, roads are still experiencing icy surfaces and swirling and blowing snow, but the snow is expected to come to an end in the afternoon and the sun may even shine on the Battlefords Thursday.
Snowy weather moved east from the Battlefords overnight causing the Highway Hotline to show travel not recommended on roads east of Saskatoon.
Periods of snow amounting to two to four centimetres are expected Wednesday, with the wind gusting to 50 kilometres per hour.
With a high of 1 C and wind chill of minus 10 this morning, roads are icy, slippery and experiencing drifting and swirling snow.
Highway 16 is not recommended for travel from Saskatoon to Foam Lake, as is Highway 5 toward Humboldt as well as Highway 11 down to Dundurn, where driving snow is causing poor visibility.
Northeast of the Saskatoon, Highway 41 is not recommended for travel, however Highway 11 to Prince Albert shows winter conditions status with slippery sections, loose, swirling and drifting snow along with reduced visibility..
More snow is expected Wednesday, however, Environment Canada is expecting the snowfall in the Saskatoon area to decrease overnight.
