EAST CENTRAL — This year the Horizon School Division has 6,373 students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, including 331 students who are involved in learning from home opportunities.
The statistics taken for Sept. 30 and released in November show an increase in student growth overall and a slight decrease of students learning from home.
This year’s total includes 141 home-based students, 135 students in Grade K to 9 in Learning From Home, and 55 Grade 10 to 12 students in Horizon’s Distance Learning Centre.
Last year’s total included 167 home-based students, 152 students in Grade K to 9 in Learning From Home, and 73 Grade 10 to 12 students in Horizon’s Distance Learning Centre.
“We have 63 more students in our system compared to this time last year,” said Kevin Garinger, Horizon’s director of education in a statement. “We are pleased to offer education solutions for all of our students in the Horizon School Division.”
Punnichy Elementary Community School’s enrollment fell by 35 to 83, which Garinger attributes due to moves within Horizon to Regina schools.
“We are pleased to see that numbers we have nearly met our projections for the 2021-22 school year. We also saw increases of 23 or more students in Quill Lake, Ituna, Wakaw and Wadena Composite Schools.”
