Lloydminster, SK/AB – Travis Levitsky was recognized by Lloydminster City Council for his commendable acts of bravery and heroism after alerting two families of a fire that broke out next door to their homes in the early morning of Oct. 28.

At around 4 a.m., the Lloydminster Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire on the 4600 block of 20 Street. Upon arrival, the department found one house completely engulfed in fire, with the neighbouring houses on either side being impacted by the fire. Crews were advised that all occupants of the three houses were evacuated safely.

However, before the fire department’s arrival, Levitsky, a neighbourhood resident who was home then, observed the danger. Without thinking about his personal safety, as witnessed in now-viral security footage, Levitsky went door-to-door alerting occupants.

At one of the properties involved, Levitsky received no response. Again, without thought for personal safety, he kicked the door in and entered, alerting the residents to the fire and assisting in their evacuation.

“On behalf of city council and the residents of Lloydminster, it is my honour to formally and gratefully acknowledge, thank and recognize Travis Levitsky for his extraordinary acts of bravery and heroism,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers.

“Levitsky’s exceptional bravery, without thought for his safety, is in keeping with the highest traditions and values of the residents of the City of Lloydminster.”

Levitsky was presented with the letter of commendation on Dec. 12, after the city received a request for recognition under the Recognition from Members of Council Policy. Joanna Anacio filed the request and stated, “He saved our lives. He came to wake us up and get out of the house on time. If he didn’t do that, in five minutes, we would have been dead.

“Travis saved the lives of three families; we are so grateful to him,” added Anacio.
