NORTH BATTLEFORD – A Pelican First Nation man charged with second-degree murder is seeking bail.
Defence Ron Piche told the court that 61-year-old Walter Jack Abbott is pursuing a bail hearing at Court of Queen’s Bench.
Abbott's appearance was waived Tuesday in North Battleford Provincial Court and the matter was adjourned to Feb. 22 when he is expected to elect how he wants to be tried.
Abbott was charged in relation to the death of a 54-year-old man from Golden, B.C. Police haven’t released the victim’s name but say Abbott and the victim were known to one another.
According to police, at approximately 8:30 a.m., on Sept. 17, 2021, Spiritwood RCMP received a report of a deceased man at a residence on Pelican Lake First Nation. Officers and EMS responded and the man was declared deceased at the scene.
The charges against Abbott haven’t been proven in court.
