MELFORT — Melfort Communities in Bloom have started a push at the city level to rename one of the city’s streets in honour of veterans.
“I remember the first time we flew into Victoria and we drove out of the airport parking lot, and then all of the sudden we’re on this road going downtown… and we were on a highway named in honour of the veterans,” said Peggy George, a volunteer with Melfort Communities in Bloom.
“It’s an idea that we had, so we approached the city and we’ll collaborate with them and see what can be done.”
George said they don’t have a specific street or name in mind, so long as it fits the theme of honouring the veterans.
“The wars were very important, we shouldn’t forget what so many people gave their lives for,” she said. “There’s lots of talk about remembering and let’s not forget, and it’s all done in a couple days in November and then we move on and we forget about it again.”
