GRONLID — With Gronlid Central School set to be closed at the end of the 2021-22 school year, the North East School Division (NESD) has released a redesign of the boundaries deciding which schools students will travel to.

According to the Division the boundaries were determined based on distances to the various receiving schools, and current routes available to accommodate students.

Stacy Lair, the Division’s director of education, said the longest route is about an hour.

“The transportation worked closely with the families, and the school had a part in helping facilitate and communicate that,” Lair said. “(We) worked hard to grandfather in a practice that would be least disruptive for students if it was reasonable to accommodate.”

The board will be accepting written submissions or delegations sharing any concerns about the proposed changes at the May 17, regular board meeting.

A written submission should be sent to the division office at [email protected] or 402 Main Street, Box 6000 MELFORT SK S0E 1A0 by May 11, 2022.
