EAST CENTRAL — A rematch is coming to the Melfort constituency this fall.

Local New Democrats have once again selected Lorne Schroeder, a LeRoy area organic beef farmer, to represent them in the upcoming provincial election.

Schroeder ran in the March 1, 2018 byelection to replace Kevin Phillips. He lost against Todd Goudy of the Saskatchewan Party, who is also running again in the Oct. 26 election.

The New Democrats held their nomination meeting June 30 online.

“The Sask. Party is making life more difficult for Saskatchewan people,” said Schroeder in a media release. “As we face COVID-19 together, it’s more important than ever that we have a government that invests in people instead of making life harder with cuts and privatization.”

Ryan Meili, the NDP's leader, said Schroeder has deep roots in the community and is a strong voice for rural Saskatchewan.

“He’ll be a strong voice for everyone in his constituency whose lives have been made more difficult by the Sask. Party’s cuts and sell-offs.”
