Local young people were running with the law earlier this month north of Lloydminster.
The Lloydminster Rural and Maidstone RCMP hosted a School Road Relay for students June 7 at Sandy Beach.
A 10-mile course was set up on the road east of the park with students each running or walking one mile.
It was the first year and organizers expect it to continue and grow. There were 210 participants in the event from nine schools as far away as Provost and Meadow Lake.
"Everyone had fun and were very proud of themselves for finishing their mile," said Maidstone teacher Jessica Weger.
The top three teams in each age group earned trophies and money for their school's physical education programs.
The elementary category was won by Lloydminster's Barr Colony School, the junior high winners were from Jonas Sampson School in Meadow Lake and the fastest seniors were from Provost.
One of Maidstone's junior teams placed second with a time of one hour and seven minutes while one of the senior teams finished in third with a time of 1 hour and 18 minutes. The RCMP team finished in one hour and 11 minutes.
"We're just really pleased and would like to thank all of the sponsors," said Sergeant Brad Zerr.
"Sandy Beach was very welcoming and the RM of Britannia helped out on the road. The weather was great and we hope to use the same site again in the future," said Zerr.
Students enjoyed the run and the lunch and hospitality following their achievement.
