Saskatoon garage fire involves adjacent structure

Both structures were unoccupied during the fire.

SASKATOON — Fire destroyed a detached garage and partially damaged a nearby structure in the 200 block Avenue G South of Riverdale's residential community.

Saskatoon Fire Department dispatch received the report of the structure fire at 9:31 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and dispatched crews from nearby Fire Station 1.

Flames from the detached garage greeted the first arriving crew, who advanced hose lines that applied water to the structure's exterior.

Another detached garage adjacent to the original structure has flame impingement, a heat transfer mechanism. The house of the garage where the fire started is near a fire hydrant.

Both structures were unoccupied during the fire. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or residents. Fire investigators are still finishing their report to identify the cause and origin of the fire and estimate the damage.
