HUMBOLDT — A tribute to the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos using a hybrid of videos and online content is being planned to mark the fourth anniversary of the crash.
The tribute, being held Wednesday, April 6, is being planned by the City of Humboldt in collaboration with representatives of the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos families.
Due to the pandemic, there hasn't been a tribute service that was open to the public due to health restrictions since the one marking the first anniversary.
"Therefore, this year, the Elgar Petersen Arena will be open to the public to come and go as they wish to pay their respects and reflect from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.," the city said in a media release.
During that time, a compilation of videos from the past three services, plus newly created videos, will be played on the arena's Jumbotron. At the same time, videos from the same playlist will be published on the . Later, those videos will be published on the city's on its website.
At around 4:50 p.m., the approximate time the tragedy occurred, the bells at St. Augustine Church will be tolled 29 times. The city is encouraging residents to observe a moment of silence at that time.
Mayor Michael Behiel has also proclaimed April 6 as 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Day within the City of Humboldt.
