A trial against a Meadow Lake man charged with weapons-related offences and robbery stalled Thursday in Meadow Lake Provincial Court after witnesses failed to appear.

A trial for a Meadow Lake man charged with several weapons-related offences and robbery didn鈥檛 proceed July 16 after witnesses failed to appear.

Cory Bouvier, 30, chuckled while sitting in the prisoner鈥檚 box when Crown prosecutor Andrew Clements told Judge Janet McIvor that a key witness didn鈥檛 show.

Clements asked the court to adjourn the trial to a later date to give him time to round up the witnesses. The Crown also asked the court to issue a warrant for the arrest of one of the witnesses he said was key to his case. The judge granted the warrant.

Defence lawyer Evan Strelioff opposed the trial adjournment.

鈥淲e expected to have this dealt with today,鈥 Strelioff told the court.聽

Strelioff also asked the court to move the matter to the Prince Albert Provincial Court where Bouvier faces charges on another incident.

The RCMP Saskatchewan Emergency Response Team arrested Bouvier in Meadow Lake on April 19 after police received reports of threats with the use of firearms.

The ERT was in Meadow Lake at the time to make arrests at another house where there were also reports of threats with the use of firearms. At the first house, on the 500 block of 6 Avenue West, the ERT arrested Cassidy Dillon Regan, 29.

The Meadow Lake RCMP contained the second house, where Bouvier allegedly was, on the 200 block of 2nd Street West, until the ERT could arrive. At the second house police found a woman with a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, a collapsible baton and several knives. Police arrested Cory Bouvier and Monica Bouvier, 24. Monica Bouvier is charged with several weapons offences as well as robbery, mischief and obstruction of a peace officer.

Police haven鈥檛 said whether the incidents at the two homes - hours apart - are related.

Regan was released on bail on July 6 and is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court July 27.

Monica Bouvier was released in April. She had another court appearance scheduled in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on July 13 but the matter was adjourned until July 20.

Cory Bouvier鈥檚 next scheduled court appearances are July 27 in Meadow Lake Provincial Court and July 21 in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
