Police ask for public's help to locate suspect following assault

PRINCE ALBERT - The Prince Albert Police Service are releasing a photo of a suspect following an alleged aggravated assault/assault with a weapon Monday afternoon in Prince Albert.

On Feb. 24 at approximately 3 p.m. police were called to the intersection of 3rd Avenue East and 11th Street East for a weapons call.

Initial information stated a male was attempting to stab someone with a machete.

Officers quickly arrived on the scene and located a male suffering from injuries consistent with an assault; he was treated on scene and taken to hospital by Parkland Ambulance with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived; however, officers were able to view video surveillance of the assault where the suspect allegedly struck the victim numerous times with a machete while trying to take his backpack.

The suspect then was reported to have fled eastbound in an alley on 11th Street East.

The suspect is described as male, wearing a black winter jacket, grey hoodie over his head, black hat, black boots, black pants, and yellow work gloves.
