PRINCE ALBERT – A Saskatchewan woman has been handed a prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal altercation outside a Prince Albert bar.
Court heard that surveillance footage shows Francine Ballantyne and Doris Broussie outside the Fuel Stop bar in the early hours of August 5th, 2021, when Broussie was knocked to the ground.
The footage shows Ballantyne repeatedly kicked and stomped on Broussie's head.
Crown and defence lawyers recommended Ballantyne receive a two-year sentence with some time spent in a rehabilitation facility such as a healing lodge.
But after consideration, Justice R.S. Smith handed the woman a 4-1/2-year term along with a lifetime ban from possessing weapons.
