BEARDY’S AND OKEMASIS’ CREE NATION, Treaty 6 – Pêmiska Tourism has been recognized with the prestigious Indigenous Destination Development Award at the International Indigenous Tourism Conference Awards Gala in Montreal.
The annual gala celebrates outstanding Indigenous tourism operators across the country, recognizing excellence in creating sustainable, innovative, and culturally rich tourism destinations that showcase Indigenous heritage and offer unique experiences to visitors.
"This recognition is not just for Pêmiska Tourism; it’s for every Indigenous community working to preserve their heritage and culture, and share their stories with the world," said Collin Alexander, marketing officer for Pêmiska Tourism. "Our story is part of a larger movement, one that proudly affirms Saskatchewan as an Indigenous tourism destination."
The award highlights Pêmiska Tourism’s dedication to promoting Saskatchewan as a destination deeply connected to Cree culture, tradition and history. Through immersive cultural experiences, outdoor adventures and eco-friendly glamping lodges, the organization provides visitors with an authentic journey into Treaty 6 Territory guided by the NÄ“hiyaw people.

The Indigenous Destination Development Award is a significant milestone in Pêmiska Tourism ongoing mission to support share the true history of what happened in their community, a truth that was denied to many Canadians and international visitors, said the organization in a media release.
