UNITY — Many hands made light work when it came time to refreshing and repairing the Unity ball diamonds.
Last fall, plans were put in place to repair all four diamonds, as tree roots are starting to be exposed throughout the outfields, along with the infield shale reaching its expiration date. The Elks diamond had been done once the plan was put into place, and over the past six weeks, the Lions diamond, got the same treatment.
Unity Minor Ball president Regan L’Heureux says there are multiple stages involved in renovating a ball diamond. The biggest job is making sure there are enough volunteers. With the dedication of the Unity Minor Ball members and executive, Town of Unity Recreation employees and professional contractors, completion of the projects has been successful.
There are two more diamonds that need to be worked on, and L’Heureux is hopeful with budgeting over the next two years, the other half of the park will be completed.
A call was put out online looking for help with laying sod in the outfield, with 20 volunteers coming out to lend a hand. L’Heureux says “It looks great, and the hard work was worth the results.”
