Baseball and softball teams prepared for provincial quests

Unity and Macklin softball teams are prepared for provincial championships while baseball teams in Press Herald communities are still waiting for provincial draws and locations to be released.

UNITY — It is what teams work for all season, a provincial championship.

For softball, there are 205 female teams entered in provincial competition in softball divisions from U11 to U19.

In the U11 open north division, Macklin Lakers and Unity Panthers will be part of an 18-team event being held in Battleford, July 7-9.

In the U13 B girls’ division being held in Saskatoon July 7-9, 34 teams are registered including teams from Macklin and Unity.

In the U15 AW girls’ division being held July 14-16 in Regina, Unity is part of five teams competing for a chance to earn a berth at Western Canadian championships. The top two teams advance.

Macklin Lakers will play in a 29-team U15 B event being held in Warman July 21-23.

Unity’s U17 girls’ team will compete in an eight-team provincial AW event July 14-16 in Regina, with first- and second-place teams overall earning a trip to Western Canadians.

Macklin Lakers also have a U17 team competing at B provincials being hosted in Rosetown July 21-23.

Unity Panthers U19 team will compete in an AW provincial six-team event being held July 7-9 in Regina, meaning they could earn one of three spots to compete in Western Canadian championships.

Press-Herald area teams have shined in the past. In 2022, Macklin Lakers won gold at U17B girls’ provincials defeating Unity Panthers in the final. The U19 BW provincials were won by Unity Panthers in a best-of-five series over Battlefords Bandits, which sent Unity to Western Canadian championships

On the baseball side, as of June 26, Baseball Sask. has not yet posted its host sites for upcoming provincials in the varying divisions. However, dates and categories were all listed.

Unity has confirmed they will play host to 15U baseball provincials July 14-16.

There are nine different tiers for 11U baseball, with the majority of those provincials taking place July 14-16, with locations to be determined. Seven tiers are ready for U13 provincials taking place the following weekend, July 21-23. Seven tiers are set up for U15 baseball provincials, taking place July 14-16, with triple-A tiers playing off in August. U18 tiers are set for either July 21-23 weekend or the following weekend of July 28-30.

Senior baseball provincials will take place in August.

In 2022, Macklin Minor ball earned gold medals in both 15U and 11U divisions. Unity Jr. Cardinals won their provincial division, earning them a berth at the Western Canada championships.

Both Softball Sask and Baseball Sask will continue to update their websites and social media pages as these events draw closer.
