Block party serving up some food bank funds in Luseland

Community donors and sponsors were part of the success story of recreational volleyball in Luseland holding a tournament to benefit the local food bank.

LUSELAND — Recreational volleyball enthusiasts in Luseland decided to add a give-back component to a two-day, five-team tournament held April 1-2.

“We are so appreciative of donations and sponsorships from so many people and businesses in Luseland as well as volunteers and participants,” event organizer Twilla Heint said.

The Recreation Volleyball Club was able to raise $1,150, with $250 being presented to Luseland School for their healthy snacks program, in appreciation for gym use. The remainder goes to the Luseland Food Bank. Funds were raised from team entry fees and raffle proceeds.

The weekend was aided by volunteer scorekeepers Keaton and Carrie Knorr and Cheyne Kerr.

Teams included a Unity team, “That’s What She Set,” which won first place. Second place was awarded to Major/Marengo team “Unhinged” while the Kerrobert team, “One Hit Wonders,” took third. Heintz entered her own team, “New Kids on the Block,” and finished fourth with their original recreational team players. “Chewblocka” finished fifth.

“On behalf of our club, we want to thank everyone who helped make this fundraiser such a great success and it makes me very proud.”

Community food banks rely on the generosity and initiatives of their residents to help keep food bank shelves filled year-round. Fundraisers such as these are a great boost to food bank resources and supplies.

Luseland’s Food Bank is volunteer-run with four dedicated volunteers. Donors can drop off product in the drop-off cart in front of Luseland Family Foods store and monetary donations can be left at Luseland Credit Union. If someone is in need or wants to make a donation, they can contact Victor or Marianne Delhommeau, Marj Thrun or Barb Klinger at 306-372-7653.
