LSKYSD launches new SkyPlus Blending Learning

Living Sky School Division provides staffing updates for upcoming year.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Ronna Pethick, chair of Living Sky School Division Board of Education, advises families that the LSKYSD Virtual School is no longer operating.

“The Ministry of Education has created a Crown Corporation for online learning in Saskatchewan for students. We still offer classes for students in a blended way,” she says.

“We have launched a new blended program offering called SkyPlus Learning that gives students flexibility to choose from a variety of courses that fit their interests and schedules,” according to The LSKYSD.

“There are both in-person and online elements. We have the course options and more information on our website: We are very excited for this program and think there are a lot of opportunities to develop courses/work experience opportunities with community partners as well.”

The division says to register for SkyPlus learning, students can fill out the interest form found on the website. From there the request will be communicated to the student’s school and scheduling will be confirmed. The interest form can be found by clicking the registration site on the home page and scrolling down to the bottom.

Principals will work with students and their families to ensure scheduling works. The division also wants to make sure students are setting themselves up for success, so having this conversation ensures online learning is a good fit for the student as well.

“At the end of the year we had 35 students enrolled in full-time online education (this was Grades 10-12 as we had discontinued the elementary grades earlier in the year due to decreased enrolment after the pandemic) but there were many students who took just on to two classes through our online school as well.”

SkyPlus Blended Learning programming development lets LSSD continue to offer flexibility and choice to their students. If anyone wants further information, Ruth Weber would be a division contact for the SkyPlus Learning program.

Pethick says they are excited for a new school year and the opportunities their students have access to. The board is there for the sole purpose to accommodate LSKYSD students and their achievements and success, she says.

“As a trustee and board chair, nothing makes me more proud or excited.”

Pethick adds, “The board of education tries to ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming environments for all our students. Our facilities department works through the summer to ensure our schools are ready for our students. Our transportation department works on all our buses making sure they are safe for our students to travel to and from school. Our senior leadership team work together to ensure the best learning environments for all students are in place.“
