Luseland Arts Council happy to be hosting again

Nov. 16 will kick off a new season for the Luseland Arts Council, hosting Twin Flames.

LUSELAND--The Luseland Arts Council’s mission is to bring a wide range of performing arts performances to their community, offering an additional dimension to rural living in Saskatchewan.

Back in 2020 was the last time the LAC was able to host a live performance for their community and the 20-month streak without music in the community’s hall was a long stretch. The last concert in January of 2020 marked the 40th anniversary of LAC, featuring the Romantics.

Luseland Arts Council was formed in 1979 and have been an integral part of the community ever since, as well as a branch of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.

Jean Halliday, President of LAC, said in an earlier statement that there had always been a buzz around Luseland well before a show as to take place. Recent financial woes at the Homecoming Hall in Luseland cited the lack of hall use put a big dent into their overall revenue.

Following the shutdown and continual changing restrictions, bringing live performances back to small town Saskatchewan was not an easy task, as it involved not only locking in entertainers but marketing the program and getting people to return to a gathered setting indoors.

Their first show back after pandemic protocols were eased involved mandatory masks and proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test. This is now all nonexistent making it easier for both organizers and audience member.

In 2022, Luseland Arts Council, in conjunction with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils School Touring program brought the Flyin’ Bob’s: Be the Circus performance to both Kerrobert Composite School and Luseland School.

In the fall of 2022, LAC was happy to host live entertainment, featuring Will Ballantyne, as part of Luseland Harvest Festival Activities, knowing the community was craving live entertainment once again. There was great attendance for this outdoor event.

Starting November 16, the LAC will present three shows in the year’s programs, beginning with the ‘Twin Flames’. The event will feature an Oktoberfest style supper complete with smokies, salads and pie prepared by the Luseland Pioneer Club, which will be followed by the engaging multi-cultural performance, blending together Indigenous and western music.

Also in November, the annual Marketplace will be held Nov. 19 with tables booking quickly, promising to be a great opportunity for early Christmas shopping options.

In January of 2023, Luseland will welcome Sheldon Casavant, an evening of magic, intrigue and illusion in a light-hearted, interactive magic show which is geared for all ages.

The final show of the LAC season will be the Derina Harvey Band, who offer an east coast kitchen party style entertainment program.
