LUSELAND — The Luseland Credit Union Swimming Pool hosted a diving clinic Aug.20 and had 15 participants. The pool will be staying open until after the Labour Day weekend, with the last day being Sept. 4. The pool was extremely busy this season with three full sets of swimming lessons offered. Luseland pool also offered Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and the Swim for Life instructor course this year.
The town is appreciative of those who support our pool and we would be remiss not to acknowledge the pool staff for their efforts in running extra activities and fun events, which all contribute to bringing people out to the pool.
The Town of Luseland recently had a byelection and welcomes a new councillor to our table, Rianne Bozzard. Rianne works at the Delta Co-op in Luseland and was sworn in at our August council meeting. We still have one open seat on council and a second byelection will take place. The deadline for nomination papers is Aug. 23. The Luseland Hall Board hosted a farmers market at the Luseland/Salvador Community Hall on Aug. 8. The market helped our hall committee raise another $1,551.90 towards projects which keep our community hall viable. Pam Bergen won the gift basket donated by home-based business owners. The success of the event led to another group planning a second market to be held in conjunction with Harvest Festival, Sept. 9.
The donation campaign and fundraising events that the hall board has put on over the last couple of years have raised more than enough to proceed with the boiler replacement project. The new boiler will be installed soon and ensure the longevity of this much-used recreational facility.
The Luseland Senior Mallards will be back on the ice this season. They will be one of four teams as part of a new league being formed in the area. This new Crossroads Hockey League will include teams from Luseland, Kerrobert, Dodsland and a Kindersley team so far. This is extremely exciting news for the Luseland arena. The rink committee is also busy with two major projects before rink kickoff. They will be announcing more details regarding this soon.
The tree committee is working hard to strategize on the removal of aged trees and a plan to take one section each year and plan removal and the replanting of new trees. Very soon town residents will notice the beginning of the Strathcona tree project. We will be taking down a section of trees and replanting with a different variety.
The Luseland Community Development Committee is once again hosting a Harvest Festival Sept. 9. The committee is asking businesses and organizations to host their events on this day and as part of the festivities. The museum will be hosting a variety of events such as a vegetable car race. The Luseland Travel Club will be setting up a food booth on Main Street and there will be a farmers market on this day, as well.
